Desktop integration
Most of what you write down happens while you are doing something else. These are the ways into Smritsavant that do not require finding its window first.
Quick capture
⌘⇧N from anywhere — in any application — opens a small window, takes what you type, and files it. The first line becomes the title. It closes when you are done and you are back where you were.
The shortcut is yours to change in Settings → Integrations. If another application has already claimed it, the setting says so rather than silently doing nothing.
The menu bar and the tray
A small icon sits in the macOS menu bar (or the Windows and Linux tray) with the things worth reaching in one click: a new note, quick capture, and the window itself. It is optional — turn it off in Settings → Integrations if you would rather not have it.
Open With, and files
Markdown and text files can be opened with Smritsavant from your file manager: they arrive as notes on your canvas rather than as attachments. Dragging a file onto the window does the same thing.
Deep links
smritsavant:// links open a specific note. That makes a note addressable from outside the app — from a calendar entry, a task manager, a script, or another note in another tool.
The Dynamic Island
On a Mac with a notch, a pinned note can live in the notch itself: the time in four cities, the weather, what is due today — whatever you have pinned to the glance dock. It shows the reading, not the note.
Click it and a shelf of full cards drops down; click away and it goes back to being a strip in the bezel. On Macs without a notch, and on Windows and Linux, the dock along the bottom of the canvas does the same job.
It is off unless you turn it on, in Settings → Integrations.
